Weekend in the mountains

We went to the mountains this past weekend. By "we" I mean Ken and I, Ken's brother Greg and his girlfriend, and Ken's sister Liz and her fiance. All and all it was a pretty fun time. We drove up to Cherokee, North Carolina, and started the day with some walking around to see some waterfalls.

I found this rock that looks like a turd:

Ken found this fuzzy lil' catapiller:

I've never stayed in a cabin before, and it was fairly comfortable. Of course, it was more like a house in the woods, because if it were a "real" cabin... like one with no electricity, running water or some such, then I wouldn't have gone. Leigh needs a working indoor toilet! The cabin was cute, though. It was like staying at somebody's Grandma's house. Several of us agreed that it also smelled like a Grandma's house. Here's an example of the decor:

Now, the mouse with the broom kind of freaked me out a bit. Pretty much country crafts of all types have that affect on me, though. Heart shaped quilting squares especially. *shudder*

Saturday night we headed out to the Harr@h's casino on the Cherokee reservation. Even though I had fun, I must admit that this was one of the lamer casinos I have been to. Everything was computerized, even the dealer's tables. In order to use any machine, you had to plug in a card that tracks you. Yeeeah. That seems real fair. Not that I'm some kind of high roller or anything. I did spend $20.00 and came out with $35.50.
Hmm. Maybe I am a high roller.
Anyway. It was a nice little trip. I liked being outside in such beautiful fall weather in the Cherokee indian mountains. My heritage is 1/4 Cherokee, so I was half expecting to get a little something extra out of the outdoor experience, for some reason. I don't know. The mountains didn't talk to me or anything, and neither did the trees. The tacky gift shops and old indian guy wearing a headress and waving to the tourists did, though. They said: "Welcome to stereotype-ville! Enjoy your stay here on our reservation! Wanna smokum peace pipe?"
*sigh* oh well.
